The Public Works Yard at 5379 Princeton Avenue, has three (3) composters remaining for sale. $40

Cut your garbage in half and do your yard a huge favor this gardening season with a new backyard composter.
The Regional Waste Reduction Office is once again offering subsidized Earth Machine backyard composters for $40 (tax included), a big savings from the regular $100 retail price. But new this year, you’ll need to pre order a composter if you want one. The pre-order sale runs Thursday March 1st through Friday April 6th, with composters ready for pickup in your community in May.
“Instead of a big one day blow out sale in only one location, we’re doing a pre- sale this year to make sure residents who want a composter get one”, says Stewart. “Once you place your order, we’ll bring the composters to your community in early May to make it easier for pickup. “
Stewart adds one third to one half of household waste is easily compostable. ‘If you recycle and compost you could be putting as little as one or two grocery bags worth of garbage out for collection a week, a huge savings for our landfill. And by adding nutrient rich compost to your garden, your soil comes alive -greener grass, healthier flowers, better fruit and veggies.”
This year’s pre order sale features a few new waste minimization options. “Backyard composting doesn’t suit everyone, so this year we’re also offering a limited supply of worm bin composters, perfect for condo or apartment dwellers. We’re also introducing the Green Cone “food digester.” It’s low maintenance, take all types of food waste, including fruit and vegetable scraps, cooked and uncooked meat, fish, bones and dairy products, and can even handle pet waste.”
