Message from the Mayor

December 5, 2024

Public Service Announcement

Dear Peachland Residents,

I am writing to you today with a heavy heart and a deep sense of responsibility. Recently, there have been instances of harassment, intimidation, and vandalism to personal property directed at members of our District Council. This behavior is not only unacceptable, but it also goes against the very fabric of our community values. It is a threat to the trust and respect that form the foundation of our shared progress and wellbeing.

Every single Council Member is committed to working tirelessly for the betterment of our community and for the interests of all who live here. They dedicate countless hours—often at the expense of their personal time and comfort—to ensure that decisions made reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our community. This dedication deserves respect, even when opinions may differ, or decisions may be difficult to understand or accept.

I am issuing a clear message to all members of our community: such behavior must stop immediately. Any further harassment, intimidation, or vandalism directed at Council Members will not be tolerated. I want to stress that if this behavior persists, law enforcement will be involved to ensure the safety and dignity of all individuals in our community.

If you have concerns or disagreements with any Member of the Council, I encourage you to reach out to me directly at mayorvanminsel@peachland.ca. I am here to listen, understand, and mediate in order to address any issues constructively and respectfully. Let us continue to foster a community where dialogue, respect, and civility are our guiding principles.

Our shared goal is a community that thrives in harmony, where we can openly express our views and build solutions together. Let us work toward that future with dignity and mutual respect.

Thank you for your attention, understanding, and continued commitment to making our community stronger.
Mayor Patrick Van Minsel
