Extreme Heat Cooling Centre Project
Peachland, B.C. - The District has completed the installation of a replacement air conditioner serving the Peachland Community Centre's gymnasium, thanks to grant funding from the UBCM Disaster Risk Reduction - Climate Adaptation program.
The community centre, 4450 6th Street, is Peachland's most suitable location for a cooling centre during Extreme Heat Events and the provincial funding program seeks to help municipalities reduce risk due to climate change and disaster.
The District received a grant of $82,839 for the project.
A competitive Request for Proposal process was undertaken and Coral Canada Wide Ltd. was the successful company that undertook the project in 2023 and 2024.
The District intends to apply for similar grant funding to complete upgrades to the non-gymnasium portions of the Community Centre's HVAC system.
