Peachland Yacht Club
PEACHLAND YACHT CLUB5667 Beach Avenue
Peachland BC V0H 1X6
The Peachland Yacht Club is a non-profit society entirely run by volunteers whose aim is to encourage and promote the betterment and enjoyment of pleasure boating and to promote boating safety and education. Peachland Yacht Club is a member of Boating BC. Please visit our website for more information at www.peachlandyachtclub.ca.
The Peachland Yacht Club was started in 1958 as a condition of the federal government’s agreement to build a breakwater in Peachland. The federal breakwater was completed and opened in 1960. The marina operation at the breakwater was run by the District of Peachland from 1960 to 1977 during which time the Peachland Yacht Club had no formal operations, although its members were actively involved in fundraising and volunteering to support the maintenance of the marina. In 1977, the Peachland Yacht Club was recognized by the District of Peachland and was contracted to operate the marina under the aegis of the municipality. In 1984, the Peachland Yacht Club was formally established as a non-profit society under the BC Societies Act and was then authorized to manage the marina independent of the municipality.
In 1990, the federal government rebuilt the Peachland breakwater and constructed the Peachland day wharf area at a combined cost of $650,000. Local governments also contributed $35,000 to create a slip in the marina for the Search and Rescue operations. Other than those government expenditures, the Peachland Yacht Club has maintained and expanded the marina area, all on a completely self-funded basis.
The marina now consists of 60 rentable slips, 2 of which are reserved for reciprocal mooring from associated clubs on Lake Okanagan and 1 of which is dedicated to the Regional District of Central Okanagan Search and Rescue boat, operated by the Peachland Fire Department. The Club has a wait list for slips as they become available but members on the wait list qualify to sublet slips and can have temporary access to slips when moorage members’ slips are not in use.
The Club typically hosts events for its members throughout the year with the Commodore’s Dinner at the world famous Gasthaus on the Lake Pub and Restaurant being the highlight.
