Yard Waste

LIVING GREENER

Here is your Garbage/Yard Waste/Recycling Pickup..calendar.... Living Greener Calendar The new calendar will be available the first week in January.

COMPOSTING

One third to one half of household waste is compostable. If you recycle and compost you could be putting as little as one or two grocery bags worth of garbage out for collection a week, a huge saving for our landfills. By adding compost to your garden or lawn, your soil comes alive and you’ll have greener grass, healthier flowers, and better fruit and vegetables.

Yard Waste Curbside

With the automated waste collection system, disposing of yard waste is easy, clean and green!

All residents on municipal curbside garbage collection will receive yard waste pick up every two weeks from March through December.

With your Yard Waste carts the yard waste program is easy to use. Simply place the following items inside your wheeled yard waste cart (green lid):

  • grass,
  • leaves,
  • pine needles and pine cones,
  • garden plans, corn and tomato stalks,
  • branches and prunings up to 5 centimetres (2 inches) in diameter and less than one metre (3 feet) in length
Do not put plastic bags or other containers into this cart.

When your yard waste cart is full, wheel it to the curb by 7:00 am on your regular collection day. Be sure all materials fit within the cart with the lid closed. Yard waste is collected every second week from March through November on those weeks that are not scheduled for picking up your recycling.

To determine your yard waste collection weeks, please refer to the map:

The program is for Residential Yard Waste Only (no commercial or agricultural waste) and is only applicable for residents on municipal or regional garbage collection service. Different trucks will collect garbage and yard waste.

Please note, yard waste is no longer allowed in the garbage. Waste that does not comply will be left behind.

EXCESS YARD WASTE

For residents that have an excess of yard waste and who prefer to not acquire an additional cart, yard waste can be dropped off year round at the Westside Transfer Station on Asquith Road in West Kelowna. There is a fee for drop off. Yard Waste can be taken to the Glenmore Landfill in Kelowna and dropped off at no charge.

The Westside Transfer Station Hours are:

  • 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
  • (The gate is closed at 3:50 pm).

The District of Peachland is a funding partner in this service.

Alternately, private collection companies will collect unlimited amounts of yard waste for a fee.
