With the guiding principles of inclusion, adaptability, diversity, collaboration, self-determination and universal design in mind, the Accessibility Advisory Committee acts as an ongoing advisory board of Council, fulfilling the goals of BC's Accessibility Act. A key role of the committee was to draft an Accessibility Action Plan, which was adopted by Council on November 26, 2024.
The Plan's aim is to outline strategies and actions to improve accessibility and inclusivity in Peachland. It focuses on ensuring that individuals with disabilities have equal access to facilities, services and opportunities within the community. By promoting accessibility, Peachland can become a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.
The purpose of the Audit Committee is to receive and review the annual financial statement audit of the District of Peachland with the District’s external auditors before it is approved by Council and to reinforce the principle that the Administrative function of the District is accountable to the legislative arm. The Audit Committee is a Standing Committee of Council.
The composition of the Committee includes:
- Three members of Council, including the Mayor as Chair;
- Chief Administrative Officer;
- Director of Finance; and
- Director of Corporate Services, or designate.
The Downtown Revitalization and Implementation Strategy (DRIS) project was launched in the fall of 2023 to identify specific actions the District can take to support new development and improve vitality in the downtown core. The strategy focuses on creating a financially viable framework for implementation and aligns with both Council’s Strategic Priorities and the Official Community Plan (OCP).
An earlier downtown plan, the Sustainable Downtown Peachland Plan, was completed in 2010. Rather than replace it, the DRIS report builds on that foundation with an updated vision and a clear path forward through actionable steps.
In November 2023, Council approved the formation of a 13-member Task Force to serve as an advisory group to the project. The Task Force met six times between February and November 2024, providing feedback and guidance on key elements of the draft framework. Their input played a key role in shaping the strategy's direction and priorities.
At the April 4, 2025 Committee of the Whole meeting, Council received an update on the project and provided feedback on the major components of the draft framework.
Next Steps
- The draft DRIS Big Moves will be referred back to the Task Force for final comments.
- At the June 11, 2025 Community Open House and BBQ, the public will be able to review and provide feedback on the draft DRIS Framework.
- A final Phase I Downtown Revitalization Implementation Strategy and engagement summary will be presented to Council by the end of September 2025.
