E-scooters and e-dirt bikes not permitted on roads or sidewalks
As more e-scooters and e-dirt bikes are seen on local roads, some operated by youth, the District of Peachland is embarking on an awareness campaign to help parents and riders understand the rules, improve safety and prevent injuries.
Different types of electric mobility devices are governed by different provincial regulations, and not all are permitted on public roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, trails, or park areas. Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the regulations before purchasing or operating any e-mobility device.
Know the Rules
E-Scooters
- E-scooters are not permitted on public roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, or multi-use paths in Peachland.
- Peachland is not participating in the community in B.C.'s Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Project.
E-Bikes
- Permitted where bicycles are allowed.
- Riders must follow bicycle traffic laws and wear a helmet.
- Minimum rider age applies under provincial regulations.
Limited-Speed Motorcycles
- Permitted on roads only.
- Require a valid driver's licence, registration, insurance, and an approved motorcycle helmet.
E-Dirt Bikes / Mini Motorcycles
- Only permitted on private property or approved off-road areas.
- Not permitted on public roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, trails, sports fields, or parks.
- Cannot be registered or insured for on-road use.
Enforcement and Safety
Education is key and the District of Peachland will share this information with the community to spread the word. However, enforcement action may be taken when riders operate illegally or create safety risks. Parents and guardians should understand the rules before purchasing these devices and ensure youth riders are operating them legally and safely.
