Planning & Development Services

The Planning & Development Services Department is responsible for land use planning, development, building inspection and bylaw enforcement. This Department addresses community and infrastructure planning, zoning, inspection services, building permits, business licences, development permits and subdivision through an independent Approving Officer. Planning & Development Services is also responsible for appropriate environmental management practices according to Provincial and Federal Legislation. A Sustainable Action Plan and Energy Management Plan are being developed as the District is a signatory to the BC Climate Action Charter as initiated by the Province of B.C. in 2007.

Planning focus is shifting to providing assistance to Council in managing growth and development in a smart, sustainable and orderly manner, in cooperation with Council, staff and community stakeholders. Sustainable development features and affordable housing are now being encouraged in all new developments, since approval of new OCP amendments in 2008.
