REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
Rise & Report – New Firehall
Mayor Patrick Van Minsel reported that Council has decided to no longer seek acquisition of the Peachland Baptist Church property and that Council has directed administration to immediately proceed with a Request for Proposals to design a basic firehall on the District-owned property at the corner of 13th Street and San Clemente Avenue and to engage with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit to satisfy highway safety and access requirements, while awaiting UBCM’s decision on Peachland’s $7 million grant application to the Canada Community Building Fund.
Climate Action Task Force Extended
Council’s Climate Action Task Force was granted an extension to June 10, 2026, allowing more time for the completion of the Climate Action Plan.
Outdoor Vending
Council discussed it’s Outdoor and Food Vending Policy and deferred the decision to allow Administration time to incorporate Council’s input. The policy guides outdoor vending on public spaces like sidewalks and road rights-of-ways. Following several years of operation under the current policy framework, staff have identified that the existing locations of Doggy Beach Boat Launch and along Beach Avenue no longer align effectively with pedestrian circulation patterns, parking limitations, evolving community expectations, or the financial feasibility of maintaining viable vending opportunities. Council will be provided with an updated report at an upcoming meeting.
