These aren’t fire hydrants

High Pressure Hydrant

Peachland residents may have noticed new, black bags covering what they might have assumed were fire hydrants on Trepanier Road, Ponderosa Drive, or on the slope behind Peachland Elementary.

Although these look like fire hydrants, they were installed during the construction phase of the Trepanier Interconnect as blow offs. The Interconnect was essentially a high-pressure water main allowing treated water from the newly-constructed Water Treatment Plant to fill the Cousins Reservoir, combining the Trepanier system into the Peachland Creek system.

After the completion of the project the isolation valves were closed to ensure no accidental use. These were NEVER designed to be used as fire hydrants or for fire suppression, due to the high pressure in the main.

Although these are isolated and labelled to prevent accidental use, the District decided to add this extra layer of protection as a temporary safety measure until a permanent solution is implemented.
