REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing Next Steps Project
Council adopted amendments to update bylaws affected by previous major changes to the District’s Zoning Bylaw, which were prompted by Bill 44 - Housing Statutes Amendment Act. While the amendment bylaws support Council’s priorities to increase housing choices by promoting diverse housing options and streamlining the development application process, they were mainly updated to improve clarity and consistency across bylaws. The SSMUH next steps project is ongoing and more amendments to the Zoning Bylaw are expected to be presented to Council in the future.
Wildfire Preparedness Open House May 2
Assistant Fire Chief Wes Aigro invited Council and the public to Peachland Fire & Rescue’s annual Wildfire Preparedness Open House on Saturday, May 2 at the Peachland Community Centre from 11 am to 4 pm. The open house will include information booths from participating regional partners including Emergency Support Services, the Central Okanagan Emergency Management Program, RCMP, xeriscaping representatives, FireSmart BC, and more. The Kelowna Fire Department has loaned its fire protection trailer for the event and Peachland fire trucks will be on display. Peachland firefighters will take part in burn demonstrations at 1 pm and 3 pm. The Salvation Army will provide free food and beverages between noon and 2 pm. The event is free for all with activities for all ages.
R1 Zoning Front Setback Amendment
Council directed Administration to prepare a Zoning Bylaw amendment to permit a reduced front yard setback in the R1 zone, from 6 metres to 4.5 metres, in certain circumstances, improving flexibility in siting dwellings where rear yard space is constrained.
Speed Bumps on 13th Street and Lake Avenue
Council directed staff to install 30 km/h speed limit signage and two seasonal side-by-side speed bumps on 13th Street at the intersection with Lake Avenue in an effort to prevent excessive vehicle speeds, stunting and excessive noise in the area.
